The Panerai Submersible PAM00719 is the Mike Horn Pole2Pole limited edition. It was released as a 500-piece run to mark Horn's two-year expedition circumnavigating the globe via both poles. The color scheme is what sets it apart. Midnight blue dial with Signal Yellow accents on the GMT hand, the small seconds hand, and the dial text. Most Panerai GMT models use red or blue for the GMT hand. Yellow against blue is unusual and it reads faster at a glance. The titanium case keeps the weight manageable at 47mm. The colors. Midnight blue and Signal Yellow. The blue is a deep matte navy that stays dark in most light. The yellow is high-visibility, close to a safety yellow. Panerai put it on the GMT hand, the small seconds hand, and the "POLE 2 POLE" text at 6. Three yellow elements total. Enough to read as intentional without overwhelming the dial. VSF matched the yellow correctly and it pops against the blue the same way gen does. The vintage-toned lume on the dots and numerals is a warmer counterpoint that keeps the dial from feeling too cold. The combination works because each color has a job. Yellow for navigation. Blue for the backdrop. Beige for legibility.
The case. 47mm in titanium. Fully brushed, no polished surfaces. Titanium is lighter than steel and the full brush finish hides scratches better than polished or mixed-finish cases. The weight saving matters at this size. A 47mm steel Submersible wears heavy after a full day. The titanium version does not. The unidirectional bezel is also titanium with polished raised graduations that catch a little light against the brushed background. The bezel action is firm with clean clicks and the luminous pip at 12 is correctly centered. VSF's brushing is even across the case body, crown guard, and bezel.
The movement. Dandong P.9001, which is the GMT version of the P.9010. It has a central GMT arrow hand for tracking a second time zone on a 24-hour scale, plus the independent jumping hour hand for adjusting local time in one-hour clicks when you change time zones. The date is driven through the hour hand rather than a separate crown position. This is the correct movement for the Pole2Pole and the GMT function works the way it should. If you plan to use the dual-time feature, this is the movement you want. VSF's P.9001 is consistent across their GMT Submersible models.
The strap. Black rubber accordion diver strap with a brushed titanium tang buckle. The accordion design allows the strap to expand and contract with wrist movement and wetsuit compression. The black rubber is a neutral base that lets the blue and yellow on the dial do the work. The titanium buckle matches the case material and keeps the whole watch lightweight. Like any Panerai, strap changes are fast and this case takes canvas or leather without issue. For actual water exposure the rubber is the right choice.
