The Panerai Luminor Marina Carbotech PAM01661 is the blue-lume evolution of the Carbotech line. Where the PAM00661 went warm with beige lume and a brown strap, the 1661 goes cold. Electric blue Super-LumiNova on a matte black sandwich dial inside a carbon case. The result is aggressive in a way that the 661 is not. If you want the carbon Luminor that looks like it was designed this decade, the 1661 is that watch. VSF Watch Factory got the blue lume saturation and the carbon pattern right.

The dial. The blue lume is the whole story. In daylight the numerals and indices read as a pale blue-grey against the matte black sandwich dial. In the dark they glow electric blue. Not green. Not aqua. Blue. VSF got the saturation right and the lume application is even across the cutouts. The black hands with blue luminous fill blend into the dial in low light, which is intentional on the gen and correctly copied here. The small seconds hand at 9 and the date at 3 are standard Luminor placement. Nothing else on the dial competes with the lume.
The case. Same Carbotech construction as the other carbon Luminors. Compressed carbon fiber sheets with a polymer binder. Lighter than titanium, matte finish, and each case has a different layered pattern. The crown guard is Carbon too, which adds machining steps and cost. The 14.5mm thickness on the 1661 is thinner than the steel Luminors, which combined with the weight savings makes it wear smaller than the dimensions suggest. It is still a 44mm watch. It just does not feel like one.
The movement. Dandong P.9010, same movement across the VSF Luminor range. Independent jumping hour hand for time zone adjustment and date quickset. The hour hand jumps in one-hour clicks forward or backward without stopping the running seconds. This is the movement to look for if you care about the GMT function working correctly rather than just having it listed on a spec sheet. VSF puts it in all their current Luminor models so the performance is consistent regardless of which reference you pick.
The strap. Black Sportech with electric blue contrast stitching that matches the dial lume. Sportech is a synthetic woven fabric with a rubberized backing. It handles water and sweat better than leather and the blue stitching ties it to the dial. The DLC titanium buckle keeps the dark theme going and shaves a few grams. Like any Panerai, strap changes take thirty seconds and the carbon case works with canvas, rubber, or nylon just as well as the stock strap.
