VSF Omega Seamaster Diver 300M V4: What the Dandong 8800 Movement Changes

The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M rep has had the same problem for years: the movement. Earlier versions ran a modified Asian 2824 with a decorative plate glued on top. The rotor was loud, the movement was too thick, and the date adjusted in the wrong direction. Everyone who bought one knew it. VSF's V4 finally addresses the one thing that needed fixing, and the fix is a new movement — a cloned Dandong 8800 that replaces the 2824 entirely.

We teardown a VSF V4 next to a gen and an older market version to show what changed.

1. The Dandong 8800 movement

This is the whole reason the V4 exists. The old 2824 had three problems, and the 8800 fixes all three.

First, the date adjustment direction. On the 2824, you turned the crown up to advance the date. Gen Omega calibers adjust in the opposite direction — crown down. The 8800 matches gen: counterclockwise date advance. If you've handled a gen Seamaster, this is one of those things you notice immediately when it's wrong.

Second, the movement architecture. The 2824 used a seven-part decorative plate glued onto the top of the movement to make it look like an Omega caliber. Under a loupe, the seams were visible and the whole thing read as fake. The 8800 is an integrated clone with three main top plates. The gears you see are actual working parts, not cosmetic overlays.

Third, the thickness. The 2824 with its fake plate stack measured 6.4mm. The 8800 comes in at 4.65mm, which is the same as gen. That difference of nearly 2mm doesn't sound like much until you realize it forced the entire case to be thicker on older versions. The 8800 lets VSF slim the case down to gen dimensions.

Power reserve is 54 hours, close enough to the gen's 55 hours. The watch survives a weekend off the wrist.

2. Case dimensions and waterproofing

With the thinner movement, the case numbers fall into place. Digital caliper shows 42.07mm diameter and 13.85mm thickness, both within tolerance of gen. The mid-case brushing and crown knurling are cleanly finished — not groundbreaking, but consistent with what VSF has been putting out on their recent Seamaster cases.

The teardown shows matching O-ring placement and inner case threading between the VSF and gen. Water resistance should hold up for swimming and daily wear. Don't take a rep diving without having it pressure-tested first, but the structure is there.

3. Dial, bezel, and enamel fill

The ceramic ZrO₂ dial has the wave pattern laser-engraved, not stamped or printed. Under macro, the lines are sharp. The date font is centered in the window. The hands are polished without visible burrs along the edges.

The bezel insert is where cheaper Seamaster reps fall apart over time. Most use white paint or plating for the numerals, which turns grey or flakes off after a few months of wear. VSF used an enamel-filling process that matches how Omega does it.

The numerals sit flush with the ceramic surface and won't discolor with exposure to salt water or sweat. The sapphire crystal has a transparent AR coating that cuts glare without the blue tint that budget AR coats leave behind.

4. Two-tone lume

Omega uses two different Super-LumiNova colors on the Seamaster. The minute hand and bezel pip glow green. The hour markers and hour hand glow blue. VSF got both colors right. The application is thick and even across all markers. Lume retention lasts several hours in darkness, which is about what you'd expect from Super-LumiNova. Not tritium-level all-night glow, but solid.

5. Bracelet and clasp

The five-link bracelet has alternating brushed and polished links. This is one of those finishes that separates a good rep from a mediocre one — polished links that are too wide, too narrow, or inconsistently spaced throw off the whole look of the watch. VSF's link proportions match gen.

The clasp has a working push-button micro-adjust extension. It's the same mechanism Omega uses: press the button, slide the bracelet in or out by a few millimeters, no tools needed. Older Seamaster reps skipped this or used a dummy button that didn't actually move anything. This one works.

6. Bottom line

The V4 is a movement upgrade that unlocked everything else. The 8800 fixed the date direction, got rid of the fake decorative plates, dropped the case to gen thickness, and brought the power reserve to 54 hours. The bezel enamel, two-tone lume, and bracelet clasp are all correct.

The old 2824-based Seamaster reps were fine for what they were, but the date adjustment direction and the glued-on plate were tells you couldn't ignore once you knew about them. The 8800 closes those gaps. If you're buying a Seamaster 300M rep and the movement matters to you — and it should, because it affects the case thickness, the date operation, and the overall feel of the watch — this is the version to get. Just make sure the unit you receive is actually a V4 with the 8800, not leftover V3 stock with the 2824.
